FULL/PART TIME REMOTE CERTIFIED MEDICAL CODING POSITION AT WALTER REED MEDICAL CENTER, BETHESDA, MD (REMOTE)

Summary

The Medical Coder codes, recodes, abstracts, analyzes, and assembles medical record data. The Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing health record documentation and providers’ scope of practice to assign diagnostic and procedural codes at a minimum 97% accuracy rate and within required performance timelines. The Medical Coders provides coding for Multi-specialty Outpatient Clinical encounters, Emergency Room, Same day surgeries, Inpatient stays and Rounds. Depending on the type of medical record to be coded, the Medical Coder will be provided access to the electronic medical records system (AHLTA), Coding Compliance Editor (CCE), Composite Health Care System (CHCS), ESSENTRIS, HAIMS, JLV and other necessary, non-electronic, hard copy files needed for coding.    

Requirements

  • Coder works remotely for the Walter Reed Medical Center.
  • DOD security clearance without a 24-month break in service from government service.
  • Able to accurately assign ICD-10 CM, E/M, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and units based on provider and other qualified healthcare professional documentation.
  • Must have a private and secure area to work to protect PHI/PII and meet HIPAA requirements.
  • Use knowledge of International Classification of Diseases, Current Procedural Terminology, and Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System Level II code sets and guidelines and other generally accepted available resources to review health record documentation and providers’ scope of practice to assign diagnostic and procedural codes at a minimum 97% accuracy rate and within required performance timelines.
  • Must be able to work with all Windows 10 and Microsoft applications. Must maintain corporate computer equipment in a secure and clean environment.
  • Workdays and work hours are flexible.  

Education
Current Certified Medical Coder(s), Certified Coding Specialists (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist(s)-Physician based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder(s) (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator(s), (RHIA) and Registered Health Information Technician(s) (RHIT) who currently have or had past DOD experience to code, recode, abstract, analyze and assemble medical record data. 
Must obtain the required continued education hours at no expense to the company in order to maintain current and proper national certification(s) required for the position. 
Experience
At minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding for the Department of Defense or the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
